In a chilling account from actor Bill Murray’s early years, his ex-wife, Margaret Kelly, has revealed a night of terror during his struggle with drugs. According to Kelly, a bad LSD trip nearly led Murray to harm himself in a way she describes as “horrifyingly surreal.”
“He came home frantic,” Kelly recalled. “His eyes were hollow, his skin pale, like he wasn’t even there. He kept muttering nonsense, pacing the room like something was chasing him.” But then his words grew sharper, darker. In a voice that sent a shiver down her spine, he said: ‘Cut your face open. Slice your cheeks open.’
Before she could react, Murray bolted to the kitchen. Kelly followed, only to find him gripping a knife, pressing the blade to his own face. “It was like he’d completely snapped,” she said. “He was trembling, his eyes darting around like he was fighting something invisible. And then he dragged the blade across his cheek."
Kelly screamed and lunged for him, wrestling the knife away as blood trickled down his face. “He was strong—too strong for someone in that state. He was shaking, crying, clawing at himself like he needed to rip something out. I honestly thought he might kill himself if I didn’t stop him.”
Paramedics arrived to find Murray curled on the floor, his hands streaked with blood and his body convulsing as he wept. They sedated him and rushed him to the hospital, leaving Kelly trembling in the aftermath.
Decades later, Murray’s star shines brightly, but Kelly says the memory of that night has never left her. “It wasn’t just the drugs—it was the darkness they unleashed in him. I’ve never been more terrified in my life.”
Representatives for Murray have declined to comment.
That's all for today, thanks.
